Who am I?

Picture
I am a current graduate student in the Behavioral Sciences and Health department at the Rollins School of Public Health. I am interested in sexual and reproductive health, providing quality care to those in need, health education, and supporting other students of color on their life paths. I view public health as the one half of understanding health and disease with the other half being germ theory and other biological concepts. I eventually plan to further my education after Rollins by attending medical school.

In addition to health, I am passionate about exploring new cultures, learning new languages, and understanding how cultural and religious beliefs shape our daily interactions. Much of my early life was spent immersed in various cultures outside of the US and has opened my eyes to the diversity in the world not often seen or experienced. I believe that language not only allows us to convey ideas but also shapes our culture and our perception of the world around us.
My passion for STEM and health did not develop in isolation. I have been lucky to have had access to programs that provided me with experiences and knowledge that would have otherwise been out of reach and gave me a network of other students students of color with similar interests. I have highlighted one of these programs in this video, SMASH. The SMASH organization and program gave me the experience I needed to go boldly into biology and I enjoy working with them and seeing their ever expanding reach.
